Unmatched Media Knowledge & Experience
At Monarch Communications, we understand how the media works from
the inside out, and we utilize that knowledge to the benefit of
our clients. In a sense, the media is part of our firm’s DNA.
Monarch’s founder and president, Jeff Siegel, began his
career as a member of the media, working for four years as a reporter
and assistant editor at Fairchild Publications, parent of Women’s
Wear Daily (WWD), Daily News Record (DNR) and other well-known trade
papers. Other Monarch staffers also have journalism experience.
The many years of thinking, writing and communicating as journalists
is an important competitive advantage that enables Monarch team
to effectively reach out to reporters, present compelling story
ideas and see those stories turn into actual news articles and features.
The continued success of Monarch Communications is based on building
and maintaining relationships with key reporters and editors. Each
Monarch employee understands that it is imperative to continue to
build and nurture relationships with the media while constantly
keeping up to date on the latest news and changes in the media.
Process – A Means To An End
Companies hire us because they want outstanding media relations,
superior writing skills and a team that is driven to succeed. We
view process simply as a means to an end. As a result, we do not
spend valuable time churning out reams of reports and strategy documents.
Instead, we focus on working with our clients to come up with creative
story lines and communicate those ideas to the media.
Importantly, before we bring a company-specific idea to the media,
we spend a significant amount of time with senior executives to
understand the company, its background, key messages and objectives.
Once that important step has been taken, we prepare a public relations
game plan that outlines the strategies and tactics that we would
take to the media, along with some specific story lines. Only after
we have sign-off from management do we begin to speak to reporters
about your company.
Once we have interested a reporter in speaking to the company or
writing an article, we create a document that provides background
about the reporter and what that reporter will be interested in
discussing. It’s not enough to set up an interview; the interview
subject needs to be well prepared so that the interview runs smoothly
and the result is positive. Additionally, we always sit in on the
interview, whether it is conducted in-person or by telephone. We
leave nothing to chance.
